Classic Rome

Squares and fountains...Baroque art is in every corner.
3hrs approx Available: everyday am/pm

On request it is available as either a walking or coach tour.

Our tour starts from Venice Square, with the magnificent monument to King Vittorio Emanuele II, called Vittoriano, and the Capitol Hill, with the famous square designed by Michelangelo, overlooking the Roman Forum. From here, walking among the imposing palaces of the city center we visit the Trevi Fountain, indeed, one of the most famous fountains in the world. Projected by Nicolò Salvi, it was completely transformed, together with the square, by Gian Lorenzo Bernini under the order of Pope Urbano VIII (Barberini). As tradition dictates... when you close your eyes and toss a coin into the fountain over your shoulders, you'll return to Rome again.

After a short walk, you reach The Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna) with the impressive stairway and Trinità dei Monti Church dominating the square below. Most of the major high class shopping streets depart from here.

Last stop of our pleasant walk among the imposing palaces, monuments and shops of the historical city centre, is Navona Square, the ancient Domiziano's Stadium. Built to host 30.000 spectators, the stadium was used exclusively for athletic races, not for naval battles as believed... yes, it is true, Romans used to flood the square during the month of August, only because of the summer heat, but no battles were fought. Today the square is the glory of the Baroque Rome, with works by Gianlorenzo Bernini (the Four Rivers' Fountain), by Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi (the Church of St. Agnese in Agone). There are also works by Giacomo della Porta (the Moor Fountain) and Gregorio Zappalà (Neptune Fountain). The Four Rivers' Fountain is wrapped up in mysteries and fascinating stories, and our Guide will help you discovering them all. The Pantheon is just behind Navona Square, a beautiful temple dedicated to all divinities, built under Marco Agrippa in 27 b.C. It turned into a Christian Temple later on and, only for this reason, survived to the epoch of the Popes. Today it's used as a model all over the world for its most particular architecture.
