A leisurely drive through the beautiful hilly countryside, dotted with Chianti vineyards, olive groves and hills, of old Siena, the best preserved medieval town in Italy.

Siena is well-known for its priceless art treasures and, no need to mention... for the famous

Palio (horse race of the town districts). Visit, mostly walking: the Duomo with the frescoes by Pinturicchio and the pulpit by Niccolò Pisano, the Town Hall with masterpieces by famous Italian painters and sculptors, the Churches of San Domenico and San Francesco - beautiful examples of medieval architecture - and the famous Piazza del Campo square dominated by the Torre del Mangia (Mangia Tower). Piazza del Campo is the historical main square of this town. Unique for its very original shell shape and renowned all over the world for its beauty, its untouched architecture and for being the place where twice a year the Palio takes place (precisely, on the 02nd of July and on the 16th of August every year). It's the most unique race unique in the world that sees each of the seventeen districts of the town competing against each other in an amazing horse race.

The horse race taked about two hours to begin, but only minutes to run. Three laps around the square, spectacular falls, and the winning horse often arrives rider-less due to the sharp bends and corners of the square.

With a short drive, we'll soon be in San Gimignano. Lunch can be or in one of the farmhouses outside this small medieval center, on the hills overlooking it, where we will taste their wine and selections of Tuscan dishes typical of the countryside.

Continuing our visit we will admire the medieval charm of San Gimignano, preserved almost intact since the Middle Ages. It's noted for its many tall towers which have caused it to be called“Medieval Manhattan”; we'll also view the precious frescoes and art treasures, part of the UNESCO heritage.
