Excursion to Turin

Once the Capital of Italy, the present Turin is the Capital of the Alps

Available: everyday (not on Monday) length 10 hours approx with Lunch

Turin is a major city as well as a business and cultural centre in nothern Italy, located mainly on the left bank of the Po river surrounded by the Alpine arch. It is ranked third, after Rome and Milan, for economic strenght. The headquarters of automobile manufactures FIAT, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. It was the first capital of a unified Italy.
It is often referred to as "the Capital of the Alps" but it's also known as "the Automobile Capital of Italy" or the
Detroit of Italy.

Turin's visit includes Piazza Castello, the city's central square, Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama that are two grand Savoy palaces located on this square, and two churches: the Cathedral Dome and San Lorenzo. The Turin Shroud is hidden in a large black marble box in the Cathedral Dome, but in the small museum in San Lorenzo (entrance not included in then tour) with a full-size reproduction on view. Just south of Piazza Castello is the Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio) featuring the largest collection of Egyptian artefacts outside Cairo (entrance fees not included in the tour).


Tour will follow with the view of the Mole (view from the top of the Mole – entrance not included in the tour - at sunset is stunning, only remark is that on sunny weekends the wait for the lift can be more than one hour). Across Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, is the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (GAM) – entrance not included in the tour.  Lunch will be served in a local restaurant (based on 4 courses menu, basic drinks included). Time free at clients' disposal maybe spent for their own visits to the Museum of interest (according to the opening times of the local attractions)

Before leaving Turin by coach we’ll reach the Lingotto, the first car factory of FIAT closed on 1982 and rebuilt into a modern complex, with concert halls, theatre, a convention centre, shopping arcades and a prestigious hotel. Return to Milan foreseen at dinner time.

Rates include: transportation by private motor-coach, authorized English speaking assistant all the day, authorized local English speaking guide (no entrance fees foreseen), 4 courses lunch without drinks. In case departure will be fixed by an hotel outside the city centre of Milan, prices for coach and guide might change.

Note that most of Turin's sights and museums are closed on Monday, as are many shops and restaurants. All sights are closed on Christmas day, New Year's Day, Easter and All Saints' Day (1st November)
